Sweet and Spooky Halloween for CAS83

Clean and simple challenge this week was a sketch by reqbarbie- a classic! I made it one layer by using 1 3/8 inch square punched on a cardstock to sponge on some layers of colors - pear pizazz, pumpkin, and crushed concord then stamped the images from wicked cool into the box then the broom and the little witch from Fangtastic to create the accent element on a separate piece of white cs colored then cut out then added with dimensionals.

Really simple clean card!

Inspiration Challenge

I need to take a deep breath and go to my peaceful place right now. Last night I got home to have Tyler tell me that Kyle kicked the computer off the table and this morning the screen won't work and my brilliant IT brother thinks that the backlight is blown and my laptop is now toast. I have to take a deep breath and try not to kill my own child.

Relax, chill, it's just a computer! In 20 years I will have forgiven him but for right now I am so mad I am boiling from inside and have to make some cards to keep me calm......

Well, I have been toying with the idea of a cake card made of beautiful SU ribbon and for Saturday's Inspiration challenge they had Elizabeth embellishments and thought I would make it in honor of this card http://www.elizabethsembellishments.com/Wedding-Cake-Kitchen-Towel.html. The basecard is melon. Celebrate everything in melon ink as well-and layers of ribbon sewn down the middle and little bitty flower punched with pearls in the middle. Easy peasy card but I thought pretty. See? I am feeling better already. Who needs a psychiatrist? Not me. a handful of stamping supplies and I am so happy..... I am less mad already!

Makani's chain gang Halloween

Another card Makani made during our little stint was this one- We just LOVE Halloween! funny though- as many cards as I make for Halloween, none of them seem to ever leave my home! She xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

made the base card in lilac, then layered a DSP. She punched the MS halloween fence then cut out all the dillibobbers on top and the bat wings from the bottom to create a clean lined fence ( I thought maybe the guys should be behind the bars but it did not look as good- I am playing with a owl behind bars ideas as well so come back soon to check it out as soon as I get it done! ) She die cut the tag from Cuttleb*g in black and used this awesome white marker to letter it in and then diecut another in orange and colored it in with Cop*cs to layer on the pumpkin.

Stamped the jailbirds in white and colored them in as well before cutting them out and mounting them on the card using dimensionals.

These guys crack me up 'cuz they remind me of my 3 little rascals.

Well, you know what they say- If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun!

Makani's spider card- embossing plastic packaging

Recycling should be my middle name. I have been one of those fanatical recyclers even cutting out the windows of envelopes to recycle the paper even before recycling was mandatory. Part of it was to save the environment for our future and part of it being frugal- there are such cool envelope liners, beautiful papers in advertisements, wonderful packagings.

Punches and embossing folders are reusable tools that make any paper something special. when I got some new embossing folders, they came with perfect clear plastic covers it would be really cool to emboss it and repurpose it. I mentioned this to Makani on one of our play dates and she embossed the spider web folder. It was too clear so she added some ink to make it pop out, stamped a retired SU background of spiders and diecut a really spooky spider and layered it with crystal effects to add a sheen. dangled a black hemp twine (reetired SU) and put it all together to create this creepy crawly card.

Here is the detail of the spider web. The embossing makes it kind of bow out making it more 3D which is kind of cool as well.

Now, imagine this technique using bubble type design embossing folders on acetate like this to create water scene to put fish behind it to make an aquarium or something. I think it would be so COOL! I know you all have zillion clear plastic packaging that you are all tossing into the landfill. take some of it out and use it creatively!

I'm in a Halloween sort of mood

It's not even October but when school starts and weather starts to chill, I start to get in a Halloween sort of mood. How can you help it? There are all sort of wonderful halloween stamps- I guess I go from one stamp holiday to another and there are no real good Labor day or Columbus day stamps!

This is for the SC296 using the unconventional colors for the color challenge 286 using mustard, melon mambo and baja breeze. I even dry embossed the black with the spider web folder but it was too much so I changed it back to the plain black base card. Added a layer of baja stamped in black with the spider web from Wicked Cool set. The mustard piece was stamped with the bats from the same set. I stamped the witch, cat and sentiment from the darling Fangtastic set and colored it in with SU markers and Cop*cs to match some of the challenge colors, then layered it with melon and voila! truly a ten minute card- easy to demo and make lots of if you need to- hardest part is coloring around the stars in her dress! Yummy recycled card

Challenges for this week's CAS82 is Delicious and CC286 is mustard mambo breeze. I was not sure how I felt about it but it is somehow really appealing when you put it all together. TLC288 is also using recycled cardboard and putting it altogether this is what I made. I love getting packages and ripping it all up to reveal what is inside and this is how I wanted people to feel.

Base card is melon mambo with another layer of baja breeze. A layer of black with birthday bakery (hostess set) embossed in white. I wanted to use the bleach technique but it must have lost its potency because it would not work- I have to remember to put a air tight seal on it next time I buy one of those to prevent the molecules escaping deeming it impotent!- so I used my old creative memories pens and white and mustard liquid applique as well as my pure color pencils (retire SU- for the chocolate part) and they all worked like a charm. I then layered a layer from a cardboard box I just got my SU order in, wrapped a mustard 1/4 inch grosgrain ribbon. I punched baja breeze using the new Decorative label punch (from the holiday mini) then layered a scallop oval I stamped wtih sentiment from Yummy- a sale-a-bration set I earned a while back- using melon and baja breeze- onto white CS. I put a little bling on the corners and on one of the litle cakes and a real simple card that I thought was really darling!

First Day

My babies have grown up so much- I remember when they were so small they fit in the palm of my hands 6 weeks premature barely over 4 pounds and they are going to school for the first time. It's such a big milestone....

Tyler is entering 4th grade and he has a full day ahead of him. Although I try to pack mostly reasonably health lunch, occasionally I like to sneak a little something for a surprise(he has such a bad sweet tooth!). The little sentiment from afterthought was perfect. I separated the afterthought so I could you the sentiment 2 ways. I diecut the Scallop Rectangle note (stampin up clearly sizzlet die ) first and then stamped it in tangerine, his favorite color. I love this die- takes up no space at all and is perfect for a little note or tag anywhere!

The kindergarten classes ask that we bring in a towel with the kid's names on them for laying down for naps in the middle of the day and I wanted to give them a plush one so it would be comfy. Dylan wanted yellow towel and Kyle wanted space theme which I could not find anywhere. So the compromise is the space fabric - I adhered the fabric adhesive onto the fabric and diecut using Serif Essential Big Shot Dies- I remember hand cutting letters in the past using templates- this is gazillion times easier- so quick- and it cut like butter through both layers- ironed it on then satin stitched around the letters- that part took forever but I am planning these guys to take these to college! If you are going to take the time to do something, take time to do it right! as they say.

Makani's Wizard and my Wizard Owl

My friend Makani called to see if I had time to play and I had so much fun last week, I just had to say yes! Besides ME having a ball (totally selfish- I know) , she bring over her teenage son who patiently plays with my kids who just ADORE him. My DH gets out of watching the kids and the whole family is happy happy. But through all this I did 2 loads of laundry, gave the kids all a bath and got the little ones to sleep on time- Makani was probably wondering why it takes so long to get a inkpad from a room down the hall though each time I disappear.



Look at this card- is it not just darling? She layers this -I believe- Imaginesce paper that is such hoot with the glittering owls on it and layered it over lovely lilac CS. She stamped the wizard from LaLa Land Cr*fts- I love the little owl on the top of the staff. She colored it with cop*cs and cut it out. She then layered some grass and the new Halloween fence punched from MS using dimensionals to lift it up and it is a really cool card.



She then stamped a few wizards for me so I could make some cards in the future and of course the owl lady in me came out. I mean look at that hat and the outfit! Would it not be the perfect size for my owl?

So I cut the hat, gown and the staff and colored it in using her exact color palette- why invent the wheel when it has been so conveniently done for you?

But the wizard just looked a bit lonely. She had also brought over some Cuttleb*g Mickey Mouse dies for the halloween and it had a broom and the summer beach one had the buckets and my little twisted mind kept crawling back to the sorcerer's apprentice idea so I had to try it. I am not sure how it worked but it is slowly growing on me. The broom was cut out 3 times and the bucket twice (I was trying to do 3 different brooms but they got too busy on the card). Cut 2 extra brooms to make arms for the first broom guy and I used Cop*cs to color in the raised ares to add some texture. Makani sat there and die cut and embossed all these pieces for me so this is a total collaboration card!) I stamped 4th of July (summer mini SU- gone at the end of this month! ) and embossed it in silver EP after stamping with versamark pad. Used some liquid appl*que (same white as I used yesterday on my ski bunny) and colored it with my B32 Cop*c (my favorite for sky and soft blue) to make it look more like water sloshing around and dribbling on the floor.

The owl was punched in crumbcake and the wing from the bird punch in same. Cut out the wizard outfit from the above and cut a slit in the arm to slide the wing in. I raised the whole thing on a couple of dimensionals to really make it pop out because it just seem to need the dimension.

I think I need to fix the nose though looking at it from here.

Owl Snow bunny

I just love playing with the owl and now that I started changing up the belly to point one direction or the other, there are endless possibilities for activities and expressions!

The F4A27 at splitcoast was snow with some distressing so here it is.

The base card is bashful blue sponged with some same shade with the scallop circle technique to create some cloud feel. I ripped a whisper white ona angle, glittered the edge with 2 way glue pen. The sentiment is from Cool Yule set from Cat*s Pajamas stamped in pacific blue. The owl is punched from textured Razzleberry. The wings are from the bird punch with sponged edges. The hat is from cold and cuddly - a retired SU set colored with current in-colors. I used the same markers to stripe up some white cardstock and punched it to create the matching belly "sweater". The skis are Pacific blue CS edge punched with dog tag punch to create the curve. The ski poles are just 1/16 inch strips of brushed silver CS that I fed through the little circles rounds that I cut out after punching the same paper with 1/16 inch hole. I then added some swishes if white liquid applique to add texture on the skis and on the slopes.

It is so hot today, this feels almost good to make this card!

Owls at the bar

I've had more owl dreams and here is one of them. It's 2 owls at the bar sharing a drink. I LOVE the splitcoast sketch295. It is really simple and perfect for what I had in mind. The color challenge this week was Pacific, Razzleberry and Olive which I thought was great as well.

I wanted the owls to be facing the side so I took the belly and put it sideways onto a owl body and cut the body out to create a new belly to have the beak point more to one side.

The base card is Pacific Blue, the background is daffodil embossed with square lattice folder. The bottom panel is Island Oasis DSP folded over. Sentiment and the drink is from Cheers to you. I took the drink, drew another straw with the razzleberry marker and and colored it in with melon and daffodil and covered it with crystal effects to make the glass more real. The wings are from the bird punch and I sponged it with the same color ink as the CS to add a little shadow.
