A teenager Birthday
I can't believe my son is now officially a teenager. I remember when I held him in my hand the night he was born. His whole body just fit on my hand and forearm and now here he is- riding his bike to his friend's house alone, eyes rolling at things I say, embarrassed by me kissing him in public and a total gamer.
This was a set I got a long time ago for such an occasion from PTI. I embossed Real Red CS with the start EF from CB then mounted the Brocade Blue CS (retired SU) stamped with versamark and heat embossed with white EP with dimensionals. Finally a layer of Whisper White CS and then the game controller heat embossed with black EP cut out and mounted with dimensionals again.
I added some color on the inside using the sentiment embossed with white EP and a strip of DSP. I took the color cues from the DSP for the whole card in case you are wondering why I used retired color- besides the fact that I have 3 shelf-fuls of papers.....

Happy Easter 6x6 paper baskets
My kids get way too much candy for Easter so I like to make little baskets for them. I have been eye-ing several little basket dies but you know what? I love this little simple basket made of 6x6 piece of paper. I took a 6x6 paper, scored it at 2 and 4 inches on both sides to make like a tic-tac-toe board then cut 1/2 strips in one direction on the 4 corner squares only and then bring them together in the pattern shown using some tape. I do find that I have to cut about 1/4 inch from the middle square that sticks out after I put the sides together. I then use a matching brad to hold it and a 1/2 inch coordinating piece of card stock handle together. This one I lined with a strip of the scallop ribbon punch first. It is really cute with a white flower punched with the brad through the center but it was too foo-foo and girly for my boys so I kept it simple. The little chocolate bunny did not make it into the picture but it fits the small Lindt chocolate bunnies perfectly (comes in a pack of 5). The creme eggs are miniatures not regular size and comes in packs or 12.
I love that this is such a simple basket but still has that woven look and feeling about it and it is such a great way to use up all your 12x12 or 6x6 DSP's that you have been hogging.....
Happy Easter!

A Secret Garden make and take
This is a make and take from my last Stampin' Party. I wanted to show the technique of white embossing the flowers on a colored cardstock, enhancing with a blender pen and same color inkpad, diecutting the image with matching dies and this is a more simplified version of the one I shared yesterday. Take Pool party basecard- I am going to be so sad when this retires. Take a small piece of whisper white- this is 4 x 2 1/2 . Stamp the sentiment from Friendly Phrases in Basic Grey then emboss the top with Chevron folder. Tie the pool party ribbon- one of the free items from Sale-a-bration. Mount the flowers and leaves- It's the same stamp stamped twice, once in regal rose CS and another onto celery then cut out the celery flower showing only 2 petals and mount with dimensionals. Real easy but elegant card for a make and take. Enjoy!

Secret Garden play
I had to get secret garden set when it came out and this card is why. I love embossing with white on color cardstock and then highlighting it with blender pen and inkpad to add some dimension. This flower color and combo was case from Connie Collins from Constantly Stamping but as I did not have the Happy Hello Cardkit, had to changed it up a bit. base card is pool party with a layer of Real red, diecut oval and then embossed with chevron folder. I wanted the sentiment to be on white so I diecut another oval from whisper white, but one size smaller than the one I used for the real red CS and then stamped Perfectly Penned in Early Expresso and mounted the real red CS and the white oval using dimensionals. Diecut the flowers after embossing with white EP onto daffodil and celery CS and mounted it with dimensionals and a lovely little card is made.

Swallowtail embossed in Pool Party
I made these cards for some thank you's this month. It is Swallowtail and Curly Cute embossed in Pool Party EP onto Early expresso CS. One layer card really easy but quite dramatic- I am trying to play with different Embossing powder colors as well. What fun!

Pastel Swallowtail
Another swallowtail embossed onto white using versamark and white EP then daubered with bashful blue, pretty in pink, so saffron and celery to create a really subtle color combo. Tied the whole thing with celery seam binding ribbon and the sentiment from Curly Cute set in Bashful blue and then mount the whole thing on another whisper white CS and a really easy but elegant card. We made this at our last party and from the beginner to the expert all had a good time making it!

Swallowtail in basic brown
This was a really easy one. Stamped the sentiment and swallowtail in basic brown and used watercolor crayons to color it directly onto the vanilla CS. Layer the whole thing onto Expresso CS and you are done!
I think this was a take 5 card!

Swallowtail with markers
This was a fun little card. I embossed a whole bunch of swallowtails onto whisper white CS with white EP to try different techniques. I did this initially with daubers and pads but it was too pale so I tried blender pen and markers and it was so much more dramatic. This was using eggplant, daffodil and melon mambo pens then used dauber with pool party to add a softer background. Stamped the sentiment from Curly Cute in Eggplant then layered it onto eggplant then pool party base card and easy as pie card.
