Yummy recycled card

Challenges for this week's CAS82 is Delicious and CC286 is mustard mambo breeze. I was not sure how I felt about it but it is somehow really appealing when you put it all together. TLC288 is also using recycled cardboard and putting it altogether this is what I made. I love getting packages and ripping it all up to reveal what is inside and this is how I wanted people to feel.

Base card is melon mambo with another layer of baja breeze. A layer of black with birthday bakery (hostess set) embossed in white. I wanted to use the bleach technique but it must have lost its potency because it would not work- I have to remember to put a air tight seal on it next time I buy one of those to prevent the molecules escaping deeming it impotent!- so I used my old creative memories pens and white and mustard liquid applique as well as my pure color pencils (retire SU- for the chocolate part) and they all worked like a charm. I then layered a layer from a cardboard box I just got my SU order in, wrapped a mustard 1/4 inch grosgrain ribbon. I punched baja breeze using the new Decorative label punch (from the holiday mini) then layered a scallop oval I stamped wtih sentiment from Yummy- a sale-a-bration set I earned a while back- using melon and baja breeze- onto white CS. I put a little bling on the corners and on one of the litle cakes and a real simple card that I thought was really darling!

Enjoy!

First Day

My babies have grown up so much- I remember when they were so small they fit in the palm of my hands 6 weeks premature barely over 4 pounds and they are going to school for the first time. It's such a big milestone....
Tyler is entering 4th grade and he has a full day ahead of him. Although I try to pack mostly reasonably health lunch, occasionally I like to sneak a little something for a surprise(he has such a bad sweet tooth!). The little sentiment from afterthought was perfect. I separated the afterthought so I could you the sentiment 2 ways. I diecut the Scallop Rectangle note (stampin up clearly sizzlet die ) first and then stamped it in tangerine, his favorite color. I love this die- takes up no space at all and is perfect for a little note or tag anywhere!
The kindergarten classes ask that we bring in a towel with the kid's names on them for laying down for naps in the middle of the day and I wanted to give them a plush one so it would be comfy. Dylan wanted yellow towel and Kyle wanted space theme which I could not find anywhere. So the compromise is the space fabric - I adhered the fabric adhesive onto the fabric and diecut using Serif Essential Big Shot Dies- I remember hand cutting letters in the past using templates- this is gazillion times easier- so quick- and it cut like butter through both layers- ironed it on then satin stitched around the letters- that part took forever but I am planning these guys to take these to college! If you are going to take the time to do something, take time to do it right! as they say.
Happy first day of school!

Makani's Wizard and my Wizard Owl

My friend Makani called to see if I had time to play and I had so much fun last week, I just had to say yes! Besides ME having a ball (totally selfish- I know) , she bring over her teenage son who patiently plays with my kids who just ADORE him. My DH gets out of watching the kids and the whole family is happy happy. But through all this I did 2 loads of laundry, gave the kids all a bath and got the little ones to sleep on time- Makani was probably wondering why it takes so long to get a inkpad from a room down the hall though each time I disappear.

Look at this card- is it not just darling? She layers this -I believe- Imaginesce paper that is such hoot with the glittering owls on it and layered it over lovely lilac CS. She stamped the wizard from LaLa Land Cr*fts- I love the little owl on the top of the staff. She colored it with cop*cs and cut it out. She then layered some grass and the new Halloween fence punched from MS using dimensionals to lift it up and it is a really cool card.

She then stamped a few wizards for me so I could make some cards in the future and of course the owl lady in me came out. I mean look at that hat and the outfit! Would it not be the perfect size for my owl?

So I cut the hat, gown and the staff and colored it in using her exact color palette- why invent the wheel when it has been so conveniently done for you?

But the wizard just looked a bit lonely. She had also brought over some Cuttleb*g Mickey Mouse dies for the halloween and it had a broom and the summer beach one had the buckets and my little twisted mind kept crawling back to the sorcerer's apprentice idea so I had to try it. I am not sure how it worked but it is slowly growing on me. The broom was cut out 3 times and the bucket twice (I was trying to do 3 different brooms but they got too busy on the card). Cut 2 extra brooms to make arms for the first broom guy and I used Cop*cs to color in the raised ares to add some texture. Makani sat there and die cut and embossed all these pieces for me so this is a total collaboration card!) I stamped 4th of July (summer mini SU- gone at the end of this month! ) and embossed it in silver EP after stamping with versamark pad. Used some liquid appl*que (same white as I used yesterday on my ski bunny) and colored it with my B32 Cop*c (my favorite for sky and soft blue) to make it look more like water sloshing around and dribbling on the floor.

The owl was punched in crumbcake and the wing from the bird punch in same. Cut out the wizard outfit from the above and cut a slit in the arm to slide the wing in. I raised the whole thing on a couple of dimensionals to really make it pop out because it just seem to need the dimension.

I think I need to fix the nose though looking at it from here.

Here is the detail on the bewitched broom!

May your weekend be Magical!

Owl Snow bunny

I just love playing with the owl and now that I started changing up the belly to point one direction or the other, there are endless possibilities for activities and expressions!
The F4A27 at splitcoast was snow with some distressing so here it is.
The base card is bashful blue sponged with some same shade with the scallop circle technique to create some cloud feel. I ripped a whisper white ona angle, glittered the edge with 2 way glue pen. The sentiment is from Cool Yule set from Cat*s Pajamas stamped in pacific blue. The owl is punched from textured Razzleberry. The wings are from the bird punch with sponged edges. The hat is from cold and cuddly - a retired SU set colored with current in-colors. I used the same markers to stripe up some white cardstock and punched it to create the matching belly "sweater". The skis are Pacific blue CS edge punched with dog tag punch to create the curve. The ski poles are just 1/16 inch strips of brushed silver CS that I fed through the little circles rounds that I cut out after punching the same paper with 1/16 inch hole. I then added some swishes if white liquid applique to add texture on the skis and on the slopes.
It is so hot today, this feels almost good to make this card!
Enjoy!

Owls at the bar

I've had more owl dreams and here is one of them. It's 2 owls at the bar sharing a drink. I LOVE the splitcoast sketch295. It is really simple and perfect for what I had in mind. The color challenge this week was Pacific, Razzleberry and Olive which I thought was great as well.
I wanted the owls to be facing the side so I took the belly and put it sideways onto a owl body and cut the body out to create a new belly to have the beak point more to one side.
The base card is Pacific Blue, the background is daffodil embossed with square lattice folder. The bottom panel is Island Oasis DSP folded over. Sentiment and the drink is from Cheers to you. I took the drink, drew another straw with the razzleberry marker and and colored it in with melon and daffodil and covered it with crystal effects to make the glass more real. The wings are from the bird punch and I sponged it with the same color ink as the CS to add a little shadow.

Isn't it cute?

For you flower

I needed to make a bunch of thank you cards for my customers this month and I wanted to use the For you flower stamp to do it. I could have kept it really simple but I wanted to add a kick of color and this is how it turned out. Stamp the flower in poppy red and punch it out. I then cleaned it and used the in color markers to mark up the different parts of the center wording and punched it out using 1 1/4 inch circle. I also punched out 1 3/8 inch circles with the peach parfait. I layered them together and used dimensionals to pop thme up. I took a white CS and used the polka dot embossing folder to add some texture on the bottom. I punched pear pizazz CS with dotted ribbon to add the accent strip then layered the whole thing onto poppy CS.
A real simple looking but fun textured card idea. I love this little stamp!

Bird punch Mouse

I was staring at the two step bird extra large punch and the wing looked like a mouse body and I had to try it out. I punched it using Crumbcake CS to make the body and the ear using the circle using the itty bitty shape circle punch. I put a little bit of glue on one of the sides of the circle and pinched it to make the ear shape. I sponged some same color ink to make it stand out a bit. The curve of the tail is actually from the body of the owl punched out for another card - I used the curve of the owl body to cut out a skinny strip using a pair of scissors. Used a marker to create a shadow below. The sentiment is from On your birthday set stamped in black. the cheese is daffodil CS punched out with the same circle punch as the ear, tied with the red taffeta ribbon. I used a piece of glue dot to make the ribbon really stick to create the angle on the cheese. Snipped the corners with ticket corner punch and layered the whole thing on real red CS. Enjoy!

Makani's trinkets for F4A26 cards

Free for all challenge from splitcoast this friday was to mash it up using stamps from 2 different companies. Makani had brought over some brooches she had diecut using Spellb*nders dies and they were so pretty and I was trying to figure out how to use it.
I love the Thin Stripes Cover a Card stamps from Impression Obsess*on which is just HUGE and gives your basic cardstock the DSP look. I stamped river rock CS with same color ink to pair it with some Anna Griffin DSP I have been hoarding to create that feminine victorian look that the brooch diecut was crying out for. The center image is from an OLD retired SU set called gentler times. Tied the whole whitng with a vanilla satin ribbon that just finished the look.

The second card is done the same way but I reversed the center image to create a contrast between the copper and the silver foil . The sentiment is from Letters from a friend another old retired set from SU.
Any ornate punch with a central image would work well for this design. I plan to try it with the Decorative Label punch that is coming out with the holiday mini- can't wait to use it!
Lynda

Makani's stamp

Makani gave me a present of a stamp from stud*o G which was really cool and I wanted to make a really simple card with it. I paired it with a clean line sentiment from SU three for you set. Colored the whole thing using Cop*cs to blend it all and used my sc*rpal to create raised embossed lines on the basic white CS. A real simple less than 10 minute card that could be adapted to be used with any medium to large sized image.
The Splitcoast challenge F4A26 was to "mash it up" using stamps from more than one company and this fits the bill as well.
Makani and I were hanging out this weekend and I was telling her about some new owl character ideas I had and we started exchanging ideas and came up with a bunch more so I will have another owl lineup planned for you soon. Some were bit sassy and I was laughing my head off as we were talking about some of the different owls we could make.
Start your week with a happy thought.

Versamarked French Foliage

As a mom, wife and doctor there is very little time left at the end of the day to much for myself. I try to sneak 10minutes here and there and in the mornings I try to wake up earlier to get 30 minute to make a card I dreamt of, take a picture and then post it before my kids get up and I have to start my day of work but some days I am too exhausted to do anything creative. But yesterday my girlfriend Makani called to say can I come over and play? So I gave myself permission to quit the work I was forcing myself to do and just play and it was SO MUCH FUN. I've been wanting to play with my french foliage set (in the holiday mini available September 1 ) and the challenge on splitcoast WT284 was to play with versamark so here is the card. Makani brought over a diecut metal from Spellbinder brooch die and the little metal piece was the left over from the center so I wanted to use it- waste not want not. I stamped it with a little leaf from autumn days in stazon then went over it with a dried up ink pen to emboss it a bit because it was hard to see the stamped image. Punched little holes on either side with my cropadile and ran a vanilla satin ribbon through it. The leaves were stamped in versamark and then using popping pastel technique rubbed it with stampin pastels with daubers to create a very soft impression with olive, rust and river rock onto white CS. The whole thing was mounted on river rock cs and it was a very soft lovely card. OK twist my arm, please can we play again sometime soon?
I want you to give yourself all a break and do something fun today! No laundry, no cleaning, no paperwork!

More Margery's Owls- using wings from the bird punch

You saw the card my friend Margery made for her mom and dad's anniversary last week but these are 2 more she made which I thought were clever and different than anything I saw from anyone. She used the wings from the two step extra large bird punch add some extra movement into these owls which I thought darling/ Above one saying HI would be really cute and on this one she put double wings. The branch with leaves are from the bird punchset as well. The tree I believe was free hand cut.
I am so blessed to have really wonderfully talented people in my life. Thanks Margery for sharing your creations with us!

Good By to Summer Mini

August is coming to a close soon and I am sad that the summer mini- I think it was my favorite so far is coming to a close. I really love the sweet scoops, watercolor trio and blissful bride sets and would be really sad to see them retire.
So to celebrate these beautiful sets, I thought I would show you more ways that you can use them.
This is a card I made for the SCS cc284 (cherry, artichoke and pretty in pink color challenge) and SC294 challenge with sketch seen here http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/card-sketches-f41/sketch-challenge-294-08-18-10-a-t502971.html
The base card is pretty in pink with whisper white embossed with elegant lines embossing folder- it goes just perfectly with this stampset don't you think? then another layer of pink, then cherry on top then a strip of my sadly retired Sending Love DSP (I am using every inch of this paper until you bring it back, Stampin' Up!). I stamped the image in black, sentiment in cherry and colored the ribbon part and a little bit of the skirt with pretty in pink then put 2 way glue to adhere the dazzling diamonds on. Added the pearls- I swear I am using pearls and crystals on EVERY CARD! I can't get enough. I pinked the bottom with the pinking hearts border punch and put a teensy strip of cherry to make the hearts pop out a bit. The whole thing was set off with dimensionals to have it sit a bit up which looked nicer. I diecut little leaves in artichoke and the flower punched with a retired SU punch in white, cherry and a little piece of sending love paper added a pearl in the center and -seriously a 10 minute card. Thank you splitcoast for your wonderful inspirations and challenges. It forces me to do things and with these restrictions, I find that I can make cards faster actually then if I was doing it from scratch.

D is for Dog

This is the card I made for the CC284 color challenge http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/color-combinations-f43/cc284-always-cherry-pink-8-17-10-a-t502826.html and CAS80 - clean and simple challenge sketch here http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/clean-simple-cards-f239/cas80-sketch-stampingout-8-16-10-a-t502710.html but I turned it upside down and used an image instead of the ribbon.
Used pretty in pink base card with white on top. The sentiment is stamped with always artichoke as is the dog. Die cut the rectangle scallop with white and cherry and trimmed the white to fit perfectly inside the cherry. punched a dotted ribbon in cherry for the bottom and artichoke for the top- only used the 1/2 of the artichoke under the cherry strip that was heat embossed with white embossing powder after stamping the dog bones with white craft. the hills on the top- where the dog would romp around were just half inch strips of pretty in pink and artichoke that I had left over from trimming so much cardstock that I slipped into extra large oval punch and just punched it for even oval hillshapes. I tried to use the other half of the dotted scallop and layered other colors but it just looked messy- and this just seemed cleaner and more appropriate. My natural light lamp died on me this morning so this is the best I could do with the picture. I hope all I need is another bulb....... Thanks for looking!

Patti Lee and her amazing creations

I am fortunate to be in a group of demonstrators with amazing stamping talent. One of my sidelines Elizabeth Price just received the artisan award for this year and we have know for years how talented she really is- Another real gem is Patti Lee. She is here on the left with Deidre, my surrogate sister stamper on the right from a recent demonstrator get together. Are they not the cutest? She has the most amazing creations and she is my inspiration for all things Asian. I don't know where she finds some of the things she does but I have found wonderful little asian stamps and companies from her work she has done in the past before Stampin Up put a moratorium on promotoing other company products- but she will email you info about the things she uses if you ask her- she is just that sweet. This is one of the projects she created that I recreated for my workshops- which I loved- it just takes 3 1/2 inch x 6 1/2 piece of designer paper and a 8 1/2 by 5/8 inch strip for the handle and 2 pieces of 1 x 2 3/4 strips for the sides. I had to change the instructions a bit to make it work for the my workshop but still really darling. The flower is made from floral fusion and teh leaves from little leaves sizzlets dies.
Added a piece of silver brad in teh center and a peice of velcro in the center for closure and a darling little bag that fits bunch of kisses or nuggets. You can easily make 4 bags out of 1 piece of 8 1/2x 11 DSP and 1/2 sheet of a coordinating solid color. Cute and economical- what a combo! Love that newsprint DSP- used it all up for this project at my workshop so will have to order some more!
Thanks for sharing Patti!

Owl Baby

I swear I only have a few more of these left to show you. I could not get this one out of my head though. I saw these cute carriages made of scallop circle at bunch of places- I honestly could not tell you where I first saw it but I thought it was darling. Then, of course the owl baby thing took over. Owl babies is a book I read to my boys when they were younger and one of our favorites so I could not help myself. The color inspiration came from the beautiful SU Sending Love DSP -Now retired- boohoo!- diecut with the large scallop using the big shot. The basecard is chocolate chip 5 1/2 square. Very Vanilla 5 inch square on top and stamped with sentiment from a retired SU set as well. I put a strip of vanilla under the pink satin ribbon to make it not show the pattern underneath and wrapped the ribbon around, added a button using a glue dot thne tied the ribbon and glue dotted that one as well. The handle is SU swirl scribbles sizzlet diecut used partially. The wheels are chocolate chip 1 1/4 inch cicle punched then 1" pretty in pink circle and the unknown company pink brads. The owl is punched from crumbcake with the belly punched out of the same DSP sending love but the backside of the carriage. The buttons are from an unknown company as well- the bag was unlabeled! The nipple on the bottle is from the now retired horizontal slot punch from SU as well- just goes to teach you to get what you need before these guys retired it! The wings are crumbcake punched with the scallop circle punch then cut in half to create the wings. Doesn't she look like an excited little baby asking to be picked up? I love this one....
Thanks for looking.

Margery's Owl surprise

My friend Margery came by to show me some real WOW owl cards yesterday and I had to share it with you- with her permission of course. She took the bridal couple idea and gave flight by adding wings using the wings from the bird punch. She is
absolutely adorable and so is the card!
The gems on the necklace and the sentiment makes it just sparkle more. The vest on the groom I am told is silk paper. It is just so cute in real life I just couldn't wait to share it with you all!
Thank you Margery for sharing this with us!

Farmer Owl

I confess I have become the Owl lady- I keep dreaming different owls when I sleep and see owls in things that have nothing to do with owls.
I was thinking about doing overalls with owls for a farmer then a splitcoast challenge came up for using buttons on a card and I thought - I have those tiny buttons for a baby card I have been hoarding and thought I would bring them out. I think I would like to try it for a baby owl card as well- I think it could be cute- but that's another card, another day.
This used a base white cardstock, stamped with crumbcake, the corn- can't remember whose stamp that is- no markings, sorrry!
then sponged with baja using scallop circle technique. Punched a bunch of grass from MS by EK success in pear pizazz and added it on. The barn is from Pink Cat Studi*s in Poppy, stamped in black and cut out. The owl is in crumbcake, the bib in bajablue, the pocket is word window punched out in baha, sponched and I used the baja marker to add some stitching lines, The hat is daffodil punched out with a pot punch and the bottom of the owl belly cut off and embossed using the square lattice to make the texture and popped up using the dimensionals. The sentiment is from forest friends set from PTI. Enjoy!

SCS SC293

Splitcoast challenges inspire me- this card combines several- the color challenge for this week is Baja Poppy Cakes - really great combo ! http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/color-combinations-f43/cc283-baja-poppy-cakes-08-10-10-a-t502047.html and the sketch challenge http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/card-sketches-f41/sketch-challenge-293-08-11-10-a-t502186.html
I had a lot of fun with this and I got to use the newprint DSP that I was hoarding. The base card is crumbcake, with basic black, then newsprint. I took the striped grosgrain and ran a sticky tape down the middle to pleat it. I layered poppy, baja blue. Punched baja blue with dotted scallop ribbon punch and layered it on the edge. Colored the image from Just believe with baja blue, poppy red, pear pizazz and old olive to stamp then added a few gems to add some sparkle then a antique brad from the new catalogue- they are SO pretty!
Happy hump day!

Andy Warhowl inspired

I was called into Jury duty and most of you probably know there is a LOT of waiting- and waiting- as nervous as I was about missing work and having to reschedule all my poor patients who had already waited for their appointments- it did give me opportunity to peruse through my well worn stampin up catalogue and idea book for things I wanted to case, buy and lots of ideas to jot down for future use and this is one of them.
I have been playing around with the Andy Warh-owl inspirations and his colors are oh so vivid so I thought I would play with the idea and it really is fun. Punch the owl in 4 different colors- here is daffodil, real red, tempting turquoise and pacific blue and cut out 2 inch squares of the same colors. Adhere to the card as shown. The sentiment is from PTI Wise Owl set stamped in pacific blue. This really is a 10 minute card- although I find I cannot do it without my tweezers and my tombow multomono to get that fine dot of glue where I need it for the eyeballs and the eyeball dots always seem to disappear into some mysterious 4th dimension where I can never find it again.....
Have fun with this! Thanks for looking!

Garden from the Heart SCS challenges

This is a card I made for multiple splitcoast challenges- sketch SC292, WT282 stick it, an dF4A24 Garden theme. The base card is very vanilla and Pear embossed with elegant lines EF and pierced. the paper is Greenhouse Gala DSP. The Stampset is a retired Garden from the Heart stamped in black on very vanilla, colored with baja blue, daffodil delight and Pear Pizazz for the leave, added dazzling diamonds glitter on the ribbon, then punched out a little flower and added a little pearl in the center. The edges are pierced and faux stitching added with pear Pizazz marker using the pen side and mounted on pumpkin pie CS. The tag on top is punched using the curly label punch after stamping with the sentiment form the same set. The picture looks more moss here than pear pizazz - oh well.
Happy Monday. I have to go to court and report for Jury duty this morning. Can this month get any better? I am SO looking forward to 2011.

fifth avenue floral variation

So the truth is I had extra pieces but ran out of the DSP I was using at the end. But the funny thing was that I started this with the DSP on the side and noted that one of the flowers on the DSP had this stamen thing in the center that looked like this flower and that's how the cog started turning to use this set.

Stamped the background with Fifth ave floral in poppy onto poppy- You could use versamark as well- using the big rose image. Stamped the sentiment in poppy then embossed the flower using versamark twice on the center piece and another time on a extra piece of whisper white I used aqua pen to get the image wet then used the lids of the inkpads, daffocil and poppy to grab some color with it to water color the images. The stem on the piece on the bottom flower is from the big bird punch with pear pizazz CS. Without it the flower was not grounded and did not look finished.
Overall a very simple but pretty card. If I had to I think I would have used the shimmer white which takes on the watercolor better but hey I was just trying to use up the pieces I cut for the workshop so all in all, not a bad looking card. Have a nice weekend!

Friends never fade- variation 3

The base card on this is again poppy, with greenhouse gala DSP (Love it!) on either side, peach parfait down the center with tangerine tango striped ribbon - retired - which had a white stripe down the middle but it was kind of boring so I added the daffodil taffeta down the center which was pretty but when I needed to make a ribbon, it was a problem. So I made a loop de loop, added the ribbon on top where it would show, then tied the whole thing with linen thread (which is really skinny but strong) with the ends in the back, then added a row of pearl jewels in the center. The pear pizzazz CS was embossed with elegant lines. Whisper white CS was embossed using orange craft(that was the closest I had to the colors I needed) with clear embossing powder, then I also stamped the flower onto daffodil twice and chocolate chip once and cut them out to layer them to make a tole flower. Colored the wordes with poppy, pear and daffodil markers and wiped it off with tissue to make it clean and another variation- albeit a bit fussy but still pretty in real life. The details on the flower and the ribbon on the following pic. Thanks for looking!

Friends Never Fade - variation 2

The base card is Poppy again, embossed wtih elegant lines embossing folder then added a layer of peach parfait and then a piece of greenhouse gala DSP. The image was stamped using poppy and pear pizzazz markers and the sentiment from watercolor trio in black- which I have to say is one of my all time favorite stampset for its flower and the beautiful sentiment and I just realized that it did not make it into the catalogue- Stampin' Up! What have you done? (it's one of my Stella from a streetcar named Desire moments...) Corner cut and layer it onto pear pizzazz, add little pearl jewels into the corners, add a daffodil taffeta ribbon onto the corner and voila, all done. You know the old adage, use it or lose it. All this thinking this week trying to come up with different variation has got my mojo running over- my sketchbook is filling up with so much stuff I want to do but alas so little time- I even have another idea for another owl card....I will have to show you next week after I have time to play a little maybe this weekend... thanks for dropping by!

Friends Never Fade - variation

Sometimes after a workshop I have cut extra pieces and I will just make extra of what I designed to have on hand to use or as part of a gift pack for someone. Sometimes it sits on my desk for weeks or even months waiting for me to have some time to do something with it and never gets done until I decide I better put the pieces back into their coordinating color folders. But with this DSP I wanted to do something different and come up with variations using the same papers that I cut for the class so I will show you several that I came up with over the next few days. The base card is poppy embossed wtih polka dot folder on the bottom edge only, stamped with sentiment in black. The DSP was cut originally for an upright card at 4 1/4 inch so was too short for this card so I cut it and split it where I could hide it behind the stamped image to make it fit and used a ruler to line it up so it looked like a long piece. The daffodil piece was embossed with elegant lines. the image was colored with markers poppy and pear pizzazz. Iused the 2 way glue pen to add dazzling diamond glitter to the flower image, stamped friends in pear and added 2 little crystal jewels to the side and a very simple and elegant card for a friend.

Owl Week- Superheroes

Jumping Jellybeans, Batman, It's your birthday!

I was inspired by this picture for my last in the owl week installation for you. It was my twin boys' first halloween and I had all these fantasies to dress them all cute with this and that but they thought it was pure torture- trying to get the mask on was quite an ordeal. Now I know I will never have another opportunity to dress them like this, sigh... they grow up so fast....they are now only interested in being cool.

So, this may not be as cute but it was fun to make. I was inspired by the count dracu-owl's cape to try making the cape crusaders. the eyes are blue underneath the masks. the city scape is from starving artists and BATDAY sentiment is made from an alphabet set from PTI. The bat on the chest of the batman is from Pink Cat Studios Billie superhero set and the R is an alphabet set from a long retired Buttons alphabet set from PSX. The chest pattern on Robin's chest if half a dog bone cut lengthwise. His hair and mask is freehand cut. Well, at least the owl punch was from Stampin Up.
I hope you all enjoyed this run. I hope to make some more in the future for you but this is all I had time to make to show you from this twisted mind of mine....... Thanks for visiting!

Owl Week- Halloween Lineup

No, this is not a 10 minute card- I think it is more like 5 hour card. I was playing with different colors for the different characters and this is the final lineup- Count Dracul-owl 's cape was made by punching 2 more owl bodies in red and black, cutting it in half , chopping off the bottom and attaching it like a cape. The fangs were free hand cut. the Ghowlish ghost was cut out by laying a owl body over the white CS and drawing the drape and cutting it out. I used river rock marker to add some lines to make it look a little drapey. The mummy owl was punched out in crumbcake and used vanilla CS strips distressed and laid randomly. The Frankenowl knobs were cut out freehand from brushed silver CS. The scar was hand drawn with black marker.
The base card is pumpkin pie that was partially embossed with a spiderweb to add some texture. The sentiment is from a retired SU set- Booglie Eyes - with googly eyes added on for fun. The DSP is Ghostly Greetings retired SU- the middle band punched with the Dotted Scallop Ribbon border punch.

Owl Week?- Not! It's a Penguin

Ok so this is not an owl- but it did start out with the owl punch. The base card is Bliss blue with Bliss Blue DSP on the top and behind the right side scallop border punched edge. Added tiny crystal jewels.

I took a whisper white CS and used sponge to add some marina mist ink to make it look like snow capped mountains. The north pole, the ice float, the hat and the fishing pole is from a retired SU set Cold and cuddly- I cut the ice, the northpole sign and the hat out after stamping. the fishing pole was stamped after I assembled everything and paper pieced a red CS to make the present stick out. To make the penguin, punch it out in black, white and pumpkin pie and piece it as shown. The sentiment is from amuse heat embossed with white EP. Tied the tafetta blue ribbon to accent the side even more.
I am having so much fun with this punch- would you believe I have more ideas still? It just takes the time to take it from my sketch to the actual card- if only I could do this for a living....
maybe I should tell you my ideas and challenge people to make the owls - would anyone be up for this? Thanks for visiting!
