A Sweet Folded Ribbon total CASE

I was looking to do a card using the texture plate and I ran across a card from Julie Beltramo and I knew I would have to case it. The colors were so pretty. Bridal bliss base with crumbcake layer followed by white CS textured with texture kit #4 (retired)The word friend from the textured paper was punched with word window. The pretty postage stamp was stamped using bridal bliss and same color CS punched using the postage stamp punch and layered using the dimensionals. The stitched polyribbon was stuck on with sticky strip in a random fashion. Super simple and oh so pretty...

Happy Recycling motorcyling

As soon as I saw this stamp- even though it was a single stamp and wood mounted- aghast! ( you know me as the queen of the unmounted stamps with space shortage and all for years! ) I had to have it. I think it comes from having been a good girl all my life- I always wanted to get a little lilly of the valley flower tattoo'd and ride a Harley but I am always worried about hepatitis from needles and never got around to it. Now with 3 little boys, I got a mommy van and I can see why sometimes I see little grandma's with their armskin flapping in the wind, wearing their babushka's and driving a sports convertible- that's going to be ME some day! It's the good girl wanting to be a little bit BAD sometimes!

I have been playing with the aluminum foil for a long time with different textures but found even the heavy duty aluminum foil to be not quite sturdy enough and you had be careful with it when mailing or applying pressure on it. One day someone catered lunch in my office and they brought chinese food in these aluminum foil trays with a cover that was a heavy duty aluminum foil you buy at craft stores for gobs of money- so instead of letting them trash it- I took it home to recycle- washed it off, cut it up with a heavy duty scissors ( then found my old cutting/scoring tool worked fine- it trashes the blade faster but hey, it is nice getting those clean lines-

I cut it to size THEN ran it through the texturz plate and this is what I got- sturdy and gorgeous. Embossing folders work beautifully too. Even if it has some things embossed in it already from the manufactures, creases whatever, lot of it just irons out with the pressure- gorgeous! I would apply either sticky tape to mount it or use tape on the base cardstock before you mount the foil to avoid messing up the impression.

The motorcycle is stamped in black, let dry a little then colored in wth real red marker. Mounted on basic grey cardstock. I punched some arrows with My Way punch- (retiring sigh!) and put white lines with my signo gel pen to make it look like the road a bit.
This is a easy stamp card- hardest part are the nails.

Use silver cardstock to punch out the cogs- that you will use to decorate the inside to add interest (it does take some doing to punch this out- I thought it was defective the first time I used it because it kept not punching all the way - I have to literally stand over it with both hands on it to get a good clean punch- I think the extra thick cardstock makes it so- Take a 1/4 inch punch and punch left over brushed silver cardstock 8 times. Leave 4 whole and cut the other 4 in half. dauber the basic grey onto the cut sections as shown and mount it on top of the whole one slightly split in the center to make faux nailheads. Cool, eh? I guess you could cut it into quarters to make a phillips screw but I am not that ambitious.

I put the cogs on the inside with another motorcycle image stamped in the corner to rev up the inside of the card.

I think any guy would love this- I know my boys did!

The frugal stamper- Little Leaves negative card, CAS58

Do you remember the project that I posted yesterday with the pretty roses with the leaves on either side? Well, this is the left overs from my class and you know I can't throw anything out that I think may be useful. Here is my frugal stamper persona coming out. (In times like this who can afford not to be- eh? ) I really looked to see what I can do with it and doing a challenge on splitcoast for and this is what came out.

I layered the negative diecut on a very vanilla piece of cardstock using a bunch of tiny pieces of stampin dimnesionals to lift it up.
I took a chocolate chip cardstock and embossed with finial press impressions folder, tied a olive satin ribbon to have the edges fall under the leaves accent piece and used sticky tape to secure the leaves accent on top.

it is very simple but pretty. Stamp any sentiment you want on the right side above the ribbon in vanilla craft or inside - emboss or let dry natural for all occasions.
Happy stamping!

metal embossing

I had requests for bridal cards from both my sister and my stamping group and I was thinking about a design and I thought silver and blue would be so pretty. When I tried to use brushed silver paper it was just a little too "flat" for the delicate background I wanted then I remembered aluminum foil embossing so this is the final card that came out. The dress template was made up by folding a paper in half and playing with the cut until I thought the dress looked not too skinny and not too fat- it took a little doing but at least now have a pattern that I can use over and over again.

The dress is also made using a texture plate- cut the design out first in shimmery white CS and then place on texture plate face down so that it would be a symmetrical pattern, wrap a little piece of blue taffeta ribbon and glue dot down a flower from the pretties kit and a half dome pearl from the same kit. Place on card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

The sentiment is from All Holidays set, stamped in Bliss Blue on white, word window punched and then mounted on Bliss blue CS punched with the new modern label punch from SU and accented with a clear rhinestone brad.

The foil embossing is easy peasy- I would recommend that you cut the piece of heavy duty foil to the size neede so you manipulate as little as possible after embossing. It is a little too thin to emboss as is and does better with a piece of CS on top before layering as instructed and shown.

This is what it looks like after you run it through the Big Shot. All the wrinkles will magically disappear. Just lick your finger and slide the paper off the texture plate. Have your mounting surface all ready and put the tape onto the paper you will mount the foil. Be generous with the tape and I would use SNAIL or some smooth tape as one of my stampers found out with one of her "bumpy" adhesives left little bumps on the foil after mounting. This is a very delicate card and the foil can be marred with lots of handling.
This is what the final card looked like. It is really fun and easy project that looks like a million bucks. I've seen cards with less work on it at stores selling for upwards of $8 plus.

If you want something more heavy duty, I would consider using heavy tin or here I used a soda can that I cut out with my heavy duty craft scissors. Wash out the can and cut out the side of the can. I've been flattening it out under my old sizzix and a year later, it still has quite a curl. Oh well.
This is so thick that texture plate does not do well with it but with the embossing folders, it does a beautiful job that really holds its shape and is perfect for rough handled cards.

This is what the embossing folder did to soda can tin to the left and aluminum foil to the right. I like the heavy duty aluminum foil with texture plate because it really smooths out the wrinkles and if you screw it up, run the same foil in the texture plate and it will come out new. But with embossing folders, there are still lots of wrinkles which I did not like as much although in a pinch I would not complain- it's still pretty cool.

This is what the back of the embossed can looks like- I have no bad habits except for one can of diet Dr Pepper that I have every morning. I tried to give it up once after reading that aspartamate may convert to neurotoxic chemicals that can aggravate migraines but my migraines were no better and I REALLY like it so I am back- just could not save enough cans to get ready for my stamping workshop to have one for everyone. Take caution- the edges are sharp and you can cut yourself if you are not careful.

This is my card using the embossed soda can with the cuttlebug Embossing folder. Base card is the new In-Colors from SU- soft suede stamped with same color with the nuts and bolts from the set Lots of Bots. Mount the embossed metal with lots of sticky strips. Crushed Curry strip stamped and edge sponged with soft suede again. Circles cut out with the new circle cutters and I used paper piercer to add a little extra detail. The screw brad on the side from Michaels.
Give this a try- it is SO MUCH FUN!

More Fifth Avenue Flora Watercolors

I really love this technique of watercoloring so much I made a whole sheet of these flowers which was really easy to color. I then used the leaves from God's beauty set to stamp the leaves in artichoke on white CS and used the aqua painter to make the
color "bleed" to our advantage this time and this is what you get. I love the flowers in the silver mint julep cups like they do in the south and with all the ciecut flowers in the flowerpot cards I've seen I thought this was a prettier version. Use a silver cardstock and fold it over and tape the edges to make a pocket. I scored grooves in it before taping to make it look more like the mint julep cups. Use dimensionals to raise up the flowers so it hangs over the cup. I put clear microbeads using tombow multipurpose glue on the center of the blue flowers.

This is the same flower cut out and leaves this time stamped onto the white topnote diecut. I cut out another to mount with dimensionals.

In this one I used the beautiful white organza ribbon to make the leaf accent. I used texture plates the create polka dots on the bottom of the CS- although hard to see and pink pirouette CS to make the scallop outside and regal rose on the white oval inside
Enjoy!

Honeycomb Fiskars texture plate

I've had some Fiskars texture plates for a long time but had not been very happy with the impression it created so it sat on my shelf collecting dust. But I had just gotten my Stampin' Up texture impressions pad and the texture silicone rubber pad and gave it a try using the instructions on the mutipurpose platform for the sizzix texture plate. It took a little doing- my first try was not very good- the plates are shallower than the sizzix ones and it showed. I gave my mustard cardstock a fine mist of water using my stampin' mist bottle and used the shims and one extra cardstock as a shim and it turned out perfect!

It's just what this stamp needed. The hive and the bees are stamped in black and watercolored with watercolor crayons and aqua painter after black was set, cut out, glittered, and applied with dimenstionals.
This is what it looks like inside.
Again, much cuter and sparklier IRL.
Thanks for looking!
Lynda :-)
